Dvorak update
So, it's the start of week two. My typing speed is still nowhere near my qwerty speed, but it's definitely improving. More importantly, I can now type comfortably with it, rather than taking a supreme effort.

Other aspects of note...I've noticed it's fairly easy to transition between dvorak and qwerty without taking a setback. I can even run one program in qwerty and another in dvorak with a minimum of hassle. Also, my wrists didn't start to protest in earnest until pushup 30 last night, whereas they used to start getting seriously pissy around 10-15 (don't even ask how they'd feel by 30 before :P) Time will tell if this improvement was due to dvoraking, or to an overall slower typing speed.

In other news, I retrieved my Amazon package from the evil UPS facility. For the majority of the time I was there waiting for my package (35 minutes this time), the room had many disgruntled customers, also waiting. This gave me the chance to do some tech support for them.
Angry customer, still waiting: "Does it *usually* take you guys 20 minutes to bring a package to the front?!"
Me: "No, not usually."
Customer: "Oh?"
Me: "Yeah, they seem to average about 30-45 minutes."

I limited my UPS tech support to that, though, and thus wasn't about to take their side in the argument they were having with a woman who was insisting that hairspray isn't flammable. Best line of the afternoon occurred 25 minutes into my wait.
UPS Employee (to me): "Okay, sir? We're gonna go get your package." Gee, thanks! And I didn't get you anything, now I feel guilty! ;)

Anyways, now I have fun DVDs, and good reading material! Yaay! Movie night this weekend, anyone?

Something good: DVDs with bonus features

Something bad: Driving in a large snowstorm. In april.

Something disturbing: The fact that Abbott gives out raises on April Fools day...I felt as urge to check again today to make sure they didn't say "Just kidding!" ;)

I need to get back into Dvorak. It sounds like you're doing well. :-)

I can't stand UPS. At least when FedEx is unable to deliver to my house since nobody's home when these companies typically deliver, I can drive down to the FedEx warehouse in town the same evening and get my package. UPS? Call us by such and such an hour and MAYBE we can hold it for you to pick up sometime tomorrow. An acquaintance of mine says that UPS is doing its job as a delivery company. Puh. What good is a delivery company if you can only get a package on their schedule?

Our company typically gave out raises on the first week of April, since that's the first week of the financial year, but last year due to "strained" financial conditions, the merit raises were pushed off to June and were limited to about 3.5-4% in my case. This year, I don't think we're going to get a merit raise because IBM is coming in to take us on as outsourced help for our company. We may get raises if IBM deems that we're not being paid enough for the position we're serving. (However, on the flip side, they did pledge that nobody's pay rate would go down; if we exceed IBM's rate in a certain position, raises will simply be held back until we're in line with IBM's rate.)

I blame typewriters!
Advance warning: found you through a mutual aquaintance's friends page.

I've been thinking about learning the Dvorak keymap, but I have a feeling that it'd mess with my qwerty typing, and as I do a lot of temp work in secretarial positions between semesters in my biology degree, not sure I want to spoil that skill. (Incidentally, used to study biochem, but decided to switch to something simpler. Wheee.)

So, you're saying you don't have much problem switching between qwerty and Dvorak mindsets while typing? Maybe it's worth a lookin, then.

Makali, right? :)

Anyways, no, not too much trouble switching back and forth. Now and then I'll have to look down at the keys to let my brain know it's doing Qwerty. I do think my typing speed has dropped a little for Qwerty, but we're talking like 5-10 wpm tops (out of around 90) :) Again, this may change the more used to Dvorak I get. I'll keep you posted if you like!

It was Makali, yeah. ^.^

Keeping me posted would be appreciated! I only manage 70-80 wpm myself on qwerty. Hmm. The girl that's my 'contact' at my current temp job (two more weeks until the semester starts and I get to goof off/study!) seemed to be really interested in the Dvorak keymap, can't even remember why I mentioned it to her. I think it was something to do with her being impressed at my typing speed.

Hmm. Looking into a keyboard with removeable keys so I could switch around and experiment with the Dvorak keymap, after getting a couple of tutor programs. Could be useful.
