Why does it huuuuuurt?!
Ah'm back!

Last weekend was busy, but fun. enveri dropped me off at O'hare at the buttcrack of dawn on Friday, for my flight to Boston. Reunion wasn't officially til Saturday, but we wanted to drive out ASAP on Friday, as the two bridges to Cape Cod tend to get hellaciously jammed on Friday afternoon.

Landed safe at Logan, and was met by my sister at the airport. We chatted, as we drove into Harvard Square, where we were gonna get lunch (and pick up lunch for her boyfriend, who was still at work). Went to a place with absolutely amazing pizzas...weird, too! One was coconut rice, spicey curry, and fried tofu, the other was butternut squash, carmelized onion, and feta cheese. We split 'em, so we each had a half of each kind, then grabbed one of the squash ones.

Also gave Ali a collection of Bertie Botts' Every Flavor Beans, since she's a big Harry Potter fan. Warned her about the vomit ;)

After that, headed up to Norwood to grab Andrew and give him his lunch, and then out to the Cape! The drive wasn't bad at all, and we got to the Breakers mid-afternoon.

Some of the other family members were already there, so we had a nice evening socializing out on the beach, swimming, eating good chewy east coast pizza, and drinking Harpoon and Sam Adams.

Saturday was the reunion itself...went pretty much as expected. Whole day was spent out on the beach. Met lots of relatives, ate lots of unhealthy food, swam, kayaked, griped at surf inadequate for bodysurfing. Also managed to get myself a rather severe sunburn...but just on my legs, and left shoulder. I'd been using that spray-on sunblock, and I've come to two conclusions:
1. It doesn't stay on after swimming, no matter what the label claims.
2. Some spots are easier to spritz reliably in a high wind than others.

Sunday, we took off early, to again beat the worst of the traffic. Got back to Norwood around 11:30, to pick up my sister's car. Since she and Andrew were preparing for a trip to Newfoundland, I borrowed Ali's car from Norwood straight out to Worcester, to visit with sushimare, skorzy, and was1. Definitely a fun break in the weekend! Watched cheezy anime, played with Emmy and the Rats (which would be a great name for a band, to borrow from Dave Barry), chatted, and ate greasy pizza. Definitely enjoy getting to visit the crowd out there.

Sunday night, Andrew and Ali treated me to dinner at their favorite restaurant, a little hole-in-the-wall place in Union Square called (I kid you not) 'eat'. Very small, great atmosphere, nice and casual, and amazing food and cocktails. You know you're in for a treat when the menu always has 5 or so items on it, and changes on a regular basis :9 Came back from there, and I played some PS2 football with Andrew (I played U of I, my alma mater...rah rah!)

Monday, back to the airport via sister taxi, and back to Chicago. Two flights in a row without delays, cancellations, or major security hassles! What're the odds? Kes met me at the airport, and it was really nice to see her smile waiting for me at the baggage claim.

Was also really nice to have her rub lotion on my sunburn, but that's another story ;)

Something good: Having a family reunion where everyone gets along with everyone else, no petty squabbles or politics.

Something bad: The new security measures. When I went through O'hare, the security guards were very adamant about what I should *not* do, but wouldn't tell me what I *should* do. Thanks, guys, really good way to do things (I eventually figured out what they wanted me to do with my cellphone and keys...I found a plastic basket under a table, put them in that, and ran them through the X-ray. Guess in case I was smuggling a bomb in my housekey).

Something disturbing: The 'eat' place had doggy bags labeled with 'ate'. Cute ;)

Damn it! Figures when you come back to the area, _I'm_ out of it. I'm still stuck down in Virginia on my buisness trip. Oh well! It sounds like you enjoyed the trip. By the way, it's sushimare, not dalia. ;)

Re: *WHINE*
Ack! Fixed that little freudian typo ;) Sorry I didn't get to see you, but yeah, it was a pretty busy trip! Need to schedule a longer visit next time, and bring the cheetah with :)

Heh, yes that is a good one(I compile such silliness). It was nice meeting you again, Roho.

Yeah, traffic sucks over the bridges on Friday evening and Sunday afternoon. It's not uncommon to have traffic backed up for about five exits along Rte 6 as you try to get over the Sagamore. I don't think sneaking up Rte 6A to the exit right before the bridge would help, either. ;-) This is why on my Cape trip in June I went on a Thursday evening and came back on Monday afternoon. Not to mention it was early June still. I may go back there in November, I think.

You were in Norwood on Friday? Eek. As if Rte 1 isn't bad enough the other four days of the week. Streetlight city. I'm not too far down Rte 1 from Norwood. You didn't happen to drive down by CMGi Field Gillette Stadium, did you? If so, you were maybe about two miles from my office.

O'hare Security
I'm glad you had a great time meeting up with your folks and friends in Maine!

Security hassles at O'hare? Eeep! Bald Iggle is nervous now! Not that I have anything to hide. Though they might start interrogating me for why a Canadian is infatuated with the symbol of the United States. ;P

Awksquawk!

Completely par for the course. I absolutely loathe those morons from Argenbright, they hire the most unmotivate people and fail utterly how to teach them to relate to people in high-stress situations like O'hare. They also never teach them effective communication skills.

This is exactly why I'm so glad I'm not travelling for work anymore. The ridiculous case I had that sticks in my mind is when I put my glasses in the bin along with my pocket change. I was told I had to either put the glasses through the X-ray or wear them through the metal detector. What the fuck?

Hey Roho!

It was great having you here. Wish we'd had more time to do something fun, other than watching TV. :) I'm looking forward to you and Kes' possible visit this winter!

*hugs*
