Car update!
Just got the estimate faxed over. Was pretty close in my initial casual estimate of $2-3k. $2900. Whoof, now I'm doubly glad for insurance :P

So, looks like I'll be toodling around in a little red Neon for another week or so ;)

Something good: Vacation days.

Something bad: Aiming for a clutch pedal that just isn't there.

Something disturbing: The Enterprise I'm renting from had their entire stock of rental cars (that weren't already rented and somewhere safe) totalled after the storm...low-end vehicles, with high miles and extensive body damage, the insurance apparently just totalled 'em, and they got more from up in Waukegan. Yikes. Must be sucking for the dealers right now, the rental agent said he walked out through one lot of SUVs, reduced to nothing but deep dents.

Current Mood: shockedshocked

Ah, Neon -- the car you "put on" instead of "get into."

Just call me Sam Lowry :P

Please don't do anything that would make the Information Retrieval Squad cut a hole in my bedroom ceiling. I've just finally gotten that room back under control.

If you would please sign this arrest receipt...

Hey, I resemble that remark. :P

Apparently my mother and I are the only two people in the universe that doesn't think the car sucks. I say the two of us because my sister started off by wanting one back in the 90s, then I actually got a new one in 2000, and my mother followed suit in 2002 with a 2000 model.

The 2000 model doesn't have DOHC, and it's only 4 cyl with a 3 spd transmission, but I've found it suitable for my needs. :)

No, that would be Mercury space capsules. One of the early astronauts said exactly that -- I think it was either Al Shepard or John Glenn, though I'm not certain it wasn't one of the others.

They're making space capsules into cars now?

Insurance is good. Yeep, $3K. I'd be tempted to pocket the money and live with a dented roof. ;)

Neons aren't that bad. I was pondering one of those when I last went car shopping, but went for the roomier and slightly better-valued Ford Escort.

I'd give Roho hell if he didn't get it repaired. We're enthusiasts. So there. :)

I managed to get over $1,000 for a small dent in the rear bumper of my Contour. Yep, insurance is crazy good. O_o

$3K. I'd be tempted to pocket the money and live with a dented roof.

I did just that two years ago. Only it's come back to haunt me -- in moving from Illinois to New York, State Farm no longer wants to insure me, in large part because of that claim.

Uh, what happened to your car? I was supposed to drive it when I got to Chicago sometime this year, remember? :p
Brendan: Micahroho on July 10th, 2003 12:24 pm (UTC)
Check the previous entry...we got a hailstorm of biblical proportions here, and the car was rather beat up ;)

Aha. I'm still reading backwards.

Damn, you never told me you had an LJ, Roho! Cool to see you here :)
