I should be in Michigan by this point, relaxing.

Instead, I'm still in Albany. My trusty Saab done blew its Alternator, I think. I broke down in this tiny little New York town, Canajoharie, about 45 miles west of Albany. Since that garage was the only one in a 20 mile radius, and they didn't expect to be able to work on me til late in the week (and even then, I know they wouldn't have the part), I sprung for a tow back to Albany, to a Sears auto center.

They can't check it out til tomorrow. If it is the alternator, I'm looking at an expensive repair bill (Saab parts are way expensive).

On the plus side, Zephyr has made an immensely generous offer. The Saab parts around Albany are...not plentiful. Where he is, there are many good Saab parts stores. He's offered to grab one, if needed, and drive it the 2 hours down here.

On the other plus side, Kurt and Tracey have put me up for as long as needed here in Albany. Just a few hours ago, I was near tears, stuck in the middle of nowhere, at an empty auto shop, with no clue of where to go or what to do. Now I'm with friends, who are being more helpful than anything.

Something good: Help from friends when in need.

Something bad: The obvious, cars that break down way the hell away from home.

Something disturbing: The guy at the shop that towed me looked exactly like the scary guy with the lollipop in that Geico commercial.
Current Mood: stressedstressed

Car Breakdowns are No Fun
Lanakila closes his eyes and winces for his dear Fennecy friend.

SQUAWK! I'm so sorry to hear that your vehicle broke down on the drive through New York state! AWK! And to hear that Saab parts are usually expensive is not pleasant news to experience on the trip back to Chicago. I can only imagine your frustrated and unhappy feelings, Roho.

Lanakila pulls the foxy into his wings and wingsnuggles Roho tightly, covering him up inside of all his nice and warm flight feathers, keeping him safe and sound until his Saab can be repaired soon enough.

I'm glad you were close enough to some friends in Albany who can keep you for the time being. Sure beats shelling out more cash for a hotel room. Aww. I hope you can return home soon enough, and swiftly, my friend! Car breakdowns are no fun.

Did I ever tell you the time when Zxarr's Bonneville broke down in the middle of the night? We were driving to Iowa, and we were 3 hours into the trip when the lights started to fade, and the emergency display light came on in the informational dash. It turned out that the alternator was going, and we had to make a stopover in a small town known as Mount Brydges in Ontario. Stayed there the whole entire night, sleeping in the car while we waited for the repair shop to open the next morning and install the alternator. Suffice to say, we were dreadfully late in making our rendezvous stop in Iowa. But we eventually did make it.

Keep your chin up, dear foxy friend. Swift journeys home.
