Slice of Phone
So, my current phone/PDA is a BlackBerry 7100t, and has been for a while. Great little device. Doesn't have the keyboard the Sidekick did, though...instead, it has a pseudo-Qwerty keyboard, where each key has two letters (for the most part). You type, and it guesses from its internal dictionary which word you're aiming towards. If it's guessing wrong, you can kind of coach it along in the right direction. You can also coach it towards words it doesn't even know...It will then add these to a 'Custom Words' dictionary, so the next time you type it, you have to do less coaching.

Earlier this week, I updated the OS. Now the phone has a new option under the 'Settings' screen, called 'Custom Wordlist'. It lets you view, edit, add, and delete custom dictionary words. Peering through the list I've acquired over the months was quite enlightening. I thought I'd share a selection of words I've had cause to type into my cell phone:

D'oh (and D'ohs)
Dahlia Gillespie
Current Mood: amusedamused

The assorted spellings of D'oh and Ooooohs surprise me not. Nor really does envenomated.

It's from a griller we used to have at BD's. When he wanted to mock someone for doing something stupid/goofy, he'd kinda hunch over and let his arms dangle, and say, "Hi, I'm [fill in the blank], where's my [fill in another blank]! Durt-du-durt-durt". For one reason or another, it stuck with the local crowd ;)

You beat me to this post by mere dint of the fact that when I went to write it last week, I could not again locate this list on my phone. We have some crossover vocabulary, but I must admit you have some real gems in there.

This should be a meme.

It should! Entry edited :)

Which phone do you have?

Do I really want to know why Suppository is in your custom dictionary? ::raises a brow::

Wait, don't answer that!

You know, I asked myself the same question. I did notice that a couple entries down, in the rant about automated answering systems, I used the word suppository, so that'd be the likely suspect. But I don't remember writing that one from my phone!

I use both a 7100t for work and a Treo 650. The Treo 650 ROCKs with it's current firmware. No crashing like it had before and totally customizable. And, with Verichat, has some wicked AIM capabilities. And having a true QWERTY keyboard (unfortunately minus the upper number row) really is nice.

I love the 650 in concept. Unfortunately, I tried a friend's to see how the keyboard was, and within seconds, my wrists were screaming, "No! No!" So I'm pretty much stuck with either wide double-char keys (a la 7100), or wide overall device (a la Sidekick) ;)

Now if only I had a use for a PDA... };>
